What Members Thought

I have to give a critique speech for my public speaking class so I chose The Scorpio Races to talk about. So obviously I HAD to listen to it again for "research purposes" 😎😏
At first I wasn't sure I was in the mood for it, but apparently I'm ALWAYS in the mood for it because I LOVED IT AGAIN!! I swear, this is legit like the most perfect book ever. See, that's what I'm saying my speech. About how The Scorpio Races is a perfect book because of the unique setting, fascinating characters, and memor ...more

"He is slow, and the sea sings to us both, but he returns to me."
The Scorpio Races is very much worth the November hype, and I'm glad I was able to read it!
• The reading experience
Easy read ✓
Fast read? Not really, but in a good way! It took me five days to get through it because I had to soak in every single word and detail 😍
Emotional read? Not that much. I was more of a neutral audience here, except for when I read that gorgeous ending 😭

I can’t believe I’m just now adding this to my GoodReads shelf!!!
I love this book.
I’ve read it… three times?
I dunno, I don’t remember how many actually.
It’s just one I go back to… and it’s funny, it’s not really a comfort read per se: A twist on the Celtic kelpie legend, beautiful “siren” horses that will drown and eat you. And in this book they’re race horses.

“It is the first day of November, and so today, someone is going to die...”
Oh, wow! This was really good! The world-building was amazing, the story engaging , and the creatures were grimly fascinating (I mean who doesn’t love man-eating horses, right?) This was a very enjoyable read. (Love the Australian accents in the audiobook XD )

~3.5 stars! The atmosphere/vibes were IMMACULATE, but it took so long for anything to happen 😭😭😭

When I first finished this book, I had a hard time deciding if I liked it or not... and a few years later, I'm still trying to decide. Yet the story has stuck with me. It's an immersive tale, full of imagination and emotion. I think the title and/or the synopsis led me to think that the race would take up a bigger portion of the novel, so I was disappointed in that regard. But expectations are very tricky things, aren't they? If you go into this book understanding that it's more about the events
