This book brought me to my knees. After I got past the immense world-building in this book I was totally captivated.
This book must have been a huge undertaking for Maas. The world-building for this book is massive. Like...out of this world massive. There are so many races, places, lore, and history to contend with before you can really understand what is going on that it was admittedly a bit overwhelming when I first picked this book up. I wish we could give a book 10 stars because this book was such a great book. I went into this book so unsure. One of my favorite booktubers (Kevin from Irish reader) had me so worried when he fist started this book. He said it kind of dragged for him and I don't know when he was talking about. In the beginning there was a nasty massacre that occurred that ripped my heart out and then there was the angel of death or they used to call him the Shadow of Death. It took a day to get my emotions back to normal and off the rollercoaster they were on with this book. It was a little slow in the start in the book with the world building but soon it picked up and it was nonstop. I loved the back and fourth with between Bryce and Hunt well with Bryce and the other characters too. I do have to say Ruhn is one of my favorite characters in this book along with Declan, Tristan and Isaiah. I really hope the next book will have just the same emotional rollercoaster

Although I still think SJM uses the verb "snickered" too often, I had fun reading this book. I never really like when the perpetrator of the crime does a big reveal, with every detail of the crime, neatly wrapping up a plotline - helpful when everything is witnessed and recorded no less. But, the rest of the climax was engaging, with scenes of true heart-string tugs.

OMG! Why did i wait so long to get on the Maas bandwagon? Admittedly this one was slow to start for me, but when it took off it went supersonic. Poor Bryce, poor Hunt. This one took me on so many twists and turns. Who to believe, what story is the true story. It was sooooo good and so heart wrenchingly sad at the same time.
