Guys, I'm broken

The ending just gutted me and I'm not okay.
I loved the first book in this series. It took me by surprise and I ran with it. When it ended, I couldn't wait to get my hands on the sequel. Now, I'm at a loss. Let me explain. This book was good - but it took awhile to get there. I struggled a lot in the beginning to really get invested. The pacing was slow, not a lot was happening, and the characters were just whining.
