Kate Alice Marshall’s books get better as you get deeper into the story. Some authors snag you from the get-go and may or may not keep the interest high; now having read a few of KAM’s books, I know there might be some lag in the beginning but JUST KEEP READING because it’s guaranteed the characters are withholding information that I’m DEFINITELY gonna wanna know!
This is Marshall’s second adult thriller, and if you read last year’s What Lies ...more

"no one could ever really know another person, could they? Everyone has secrets."
A twisty, dark story about broken families, torn relationships, and the questions that have trailed behind Emma her whole life - Who killed her parents?
I really liked this one - even if I struggled to understand some of the characters. They mystery was well done, I was left guessing and pointing fingers through most of the story. I had definite opinions and who I thought it was, but nothing was really confirmed unt ...more

This was a decent thriller for me. A lot of the "twists" were super predictable for me, but I liked meeting the characters and the peeling back of what happened in the past vs. what is happening in the current day of the story. Some of the characters' actions seemed strange to me, but I chalked that up to the lingering effects of major childhood trauma. All that being said, no matter how down on my luck I was, I don't know if I could ever bear to move into the house where my abusive parents were

3.5 stars.
This book follows three estranged sisters after their parents' murder. Fourteen years have passed, and all three sisters have secrets from that fateful night. Emma returns to her childhood home, where the memories create questions and trials for her and her husband. Juliette, wondering why Emma would return, surprises Emma by showing up at her door. Daphne also returns to their hometown but keeps her presence a secret. With multiple POVs and time hops, the audio set up was perfect for ...more

I'm new to this netgalley thing, but I just about lost my mind when I saw that I was approved for a Kate Alice Marshall-written/Karissa Vacker-narrated book. This was glorious. Super entertaining, twisty without being confusing and I was here for the sisterhood vibes. I loved Emma, JJ and Daphne for all their weird, dysfunctional and suspicious ways.
Karissa Vacker did an amazing job of giving each of the sisters their own distinct voices, as well as balancing the "then" and "now" differences tha ...more
