What Members Thought

I really enjoy Royce and Hadrian as characters and their relationship is beautiful. They're fun and their adventures are entertaining. These books aren't deep (or maybe just not yet?), the prose isn't beautiful (just crisp and clean!) and the stories aren't mind blowing but I was thoroughly entertained. And that was exactly what I was looking for!

Here I continued my audiobook re-read of the first three books of the Riyria Revelations, giving Nyphron Rising another go. It's funny when I look back on my original review from 2009. Funny how anxious I was to continue with the series, and at how I'm sitting here close to five years later writing down my reaction to that very book.
What the hell happened? Well, to make a boring story short, I fell behind when books 4 and 5 came out. Then I found out that Orbit had bought the series and would be ...more

I don't even know why I picked this book up as my review for Theft of Swords stated that I would never continue on with the series. Well, you know what? I lied, okay. My friend and I were exchanging books, and I was giving many books that he enjoyed, he had nothing I wanted, but he stated he had this book available, and I said that I will give this book a go, after the bad experience with the first book. Well what you know, I should have sticked to my original plan. The problem was that the book

1st read 3/2019
My reread was enjoyable. But read first time was from the non binding book. First time for this binding book.
Still 4.5 🌟 for both stories in this book.
2nd read 4/2023 still 4.5 stars.
Still enjoyed Hadrian and Royce journey. Some sadden moments. Loved reading from women perspective too.

I've read this twice now, first time on eye-book and second on audio. First read through I enjoyed but didn't get the hype. Second time through I'm starting to see why Sullivan has such a following--these stories hold up really well on reread, and all the work Sullivan puts in by writing the whole series first and then editing to ensure continuity and easter eggs really pays off. Still feeling between 4 & 5 stars, keeping the 4 for now.
