I love love love this book. It is classic Eloisa James...fun and funny, and emotional and wonderful all at the same time. Could well be my favorite of all her books!

First paragraph: Beautiful girls in fairy stories are as common as pebbles on the beach. Magnolia-skinned milkmaids rub shoulders with starry-eyed princesses and, in fact, counting two eyes in each bright-eyed damsel would result in a whole galaxy of twinkling stars.
That sparkle makes it all the more sad that real women rarely live up to their fictional counterparts. They have yellowing teeth, or spotty skin. They have the shadow of a mustache, or a nose so big that a mouse could ski down it.

This will definitely remain on my keeper shelf to be re-read over and over. What a truly satisfying story. I was entertained throughout, laughed and cried - what more could you want. More, more more like this please.

I loved the Beauty who was mature, opinionated, confident enough not put up with the hero's bullying, modern enough to engage in some psychoanalysis which lent extra complexity to their personalitis and relationship. I loved the Beast for being so ornery, sarcastic but compassionate and understanding, obstinate to the end. the lighthearted style made it enjoyable read, and her comeuppance as a beauty an interesting tw ...more

The book was abosolutely delightful! Eloisa was once one of my favorite authors that I somehow forgot over time. Now I'm back to rereading old favorites and she's back in the mix. ...more

I enjoyed this one quite a bit more than A Kiss at Midnight. It certainly had a surprising, action-packed ending.

I really liked the translation of the Beauty and the Beast tale into a Regency romance. Good elements, nice style - but what is up with the obssession with Regency era condoms? I took history of public health and farm-intestine condoms were a) hard to come by, b) gross, and c) REAALLY unreliable.
