the book got off to a very slow start for me and it wasnt until the second half that I got into it. But it had nice twists at times and interesting characters.

Another book that could have used a good editing. Works well as a mystery novel but gets far more praise than it deserves. It is a fantastic mystery, actually, and I couldn't put it down. However, I more than once found myself rolling my eyes at the cartoonish characters. Sure, that's a staple of mysteries, but Lisbeth Salander - man alive, is she a walking cliche. She actively annoyed me, and I found her morality not only despicable but logically faulty on more than one occasion (it's been a wh ...more

This series has received a lot of praise and with this opener I'm beginning to see why. Larsson has created a complex set of characters and woven together two competing mysteries without losing much of the storyline or the realism of his characters, including that of Lisbeth Salander who is far from your typical heroine (in fact she's pretty much the complete opposite). The story does take a chapter or two to really get going but I've got to be honest I found these first two chapter quite grippi ...more

A gripping read and Salander is a great character. It always seems to be men who write the fiestiest women characters. I love all things Scandinavian because I used to live there and I really liked this too. The style is a bit cluncky and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who dislikes sexual violence. That part of it is pretty grim. Otherwise great. ...more

This book started off a little slow, mostly background and information on the financial industry. However, it picked up quickly and I really enjoyed the book. I will read the next book in the series to find out what happens in Ms. Salander's mysterious life. ...more

great thriller, kinda slow at the beginning and at the end but the bulk of the book was very entertaining. Really liked how this story took place in Sweden, it was nice to get a different aspect of culture and society. different holidays celebrated, drinks drank, food eaten etc. It will be interesting to see where Salander and Mikael adventures will go in the next book. Its a shame that the author died before he could complete the series though. said they left manuscripts for other books so mayb ...more
