This is a well reviewed and acclaimed first novel.
It is a beautifully told story of a socially disconnected young woman leaving the care system in the USA. The story is told in 2 separately running narratives that are interwoven but never brought fully together until the closing chapters. This adds to reader's desire to understand how this woman relates to her world as an adult by finding the truths in her past.

Afraid to say I plodded along with this book. Although it is a haunting storyline I couldn't warm to Victoria at all. I found it slow and although I usually enjoy stories books with 2 different timelines I found both too similar as they ran through the book. It is well written - just not for me.
