This one started as a 5-star for me--interesting situation, wonderful characters, snappy dialog, lots of sparks. Unfortunately, it sort of went downhill at the end and devolved into a much less interesting book with a ridiculously improbable ending. I wanted to see more of Villiers' other children and learn how their unconventional family had managed to navigate the shoals of society, but even absent that I wanted to learn more about the years since we had last seen Tobias (now Thorn, f ...more

Not my favorite book by Ms. James. I don't know if it was just how busy I was while reading for the fact that the book seemed so typical and a little too similar to so many other books I've read that turned me off! It still was a decent book but just not up to par with what I expect form Eloisa James books!

There were some aspects that aggravated me a little, but mainly, I was charmed. And perhaps it was wrong to find a secondary character more compelling, or it says a lot about me, but I was fascinated by Lala and wished for more time with her.
