It was a 3.5 read, rounding up because it was self published with excellent editing & formatting, as good as any of the Big 6 publishers put out.

Apparently this was published in 5 parts, the first a short story that was haunting. The second was OK & it got better with each episode until the final piece, much longer than the first, was hard to put down.

I've read a lot of post apocalyptic SF & was surprised at how new & different this was in many ways. It actually surprised me at one point. That's

Great series. I'm glad I was able to read through all 5 books together in the omnibus edition. Each book flowed seamlessly together with the previous and next. I wonder if Hugh Howey just wrote it all in one sitting? How was the split determined? Each book break could also function as a "Part" break instead. I'm looking forward to reading the prequel series, Shift.

Awesome exploration of a post-apolcalyptic, dystopian future. The series has a good balance of suspense in plot with reflection on s

My favorite story was the 2nd, Proper Gauge, but the entire omnibus was pretty much amazing. I would recommend it highly to anyone who is interested in dystopian worlds.

My rating is as much or more so because of the level of quality based on this originally being self-published than the overall story. That said it is a unique and interesting story which is why it built such a buzz. If you like straight-forward SciFi that is realistic and set in the not so dystopian future than this is worth a read. It is easy breezy and the author compiled all 5 shorts into one volume to save the reader some money.

This is the story of people living in a silo below ground follow

Yes, maybe it's just another dystopian novel, number one of a trilogy? pentalogy? But it's fast-paced after some slow moments at the beginning. Especially when you get to the part where Juliette became the sheriff. The author is good in describing things: detailed. The ending is too simple for all the difficulties and suffering the protagonist has been through, though. But the story is engaging enough to continue reading the trilogy. The next one, according to the teaser at the back, is about si ...more

I started slowly with this - no fault in the book, just found it difficult to devote time to it. Then suddenly, bam! Couldn't put it down. Really looking forward to the next two books in the series. ...more
