Spinning Silver is so beautifully complex... a gloriously magical fantasy novel that takes its inspiration from Russian and Jewish folklore.
The story is told from multiple point of views, primarily from the view of three young women, Miryem, the daughter of a Jewish moneylender, Wanda, the daughter of an abusive drunk, and Irinia, the daughter of a nobleman. This basically has everything I personally love in a book: fairytale (yep), multiple retellings (uh-huh), but with a twist where not everything is as it seems and the original characters are not as they might be remembered (oh yeah), along with some [emotionally] strong female leads that are shown to be smart and we’re not just told loudly how angry and not-like-other-girls strong they are (you bet).

I throughly enjoyed this! The scenery, detail and character development was done with clarity and cohesion. I loved the feel of this novel. It really transported me and I look forward to reading it again one day.
