Considered by many to be Murakami's magnum opus, *1Q84* is his take on George Orwell's dystopian classic *Nineteen Eighty-Four*. Surreal and strange, this long novel explores the longing for love and completeness that resides in all of us, amid some unforgettable characters, an intricate plot with interesting twists and turns, and an ending where everything comes to full circle. This would have been a 5 star read for me if he didn't repeat himself so much. He tells you the same thing over and over again. I'm not an idiot I don't need to be told repeatedly that Tengo likes his married older girlfriend because she doesn't put any demands on his time. Or that his father was a collector for the Radio & TV subscription service over and over again and how much he hated having to go on Sunday collections.
