I was so apprehensive about reading The Great Alone. A story set in the 70s with a storyline involving domestic violence? Ehhhh... I’m not so sure about this. Despite that, I put the book on hold at the library and then forgot about it.

This story pulled me in from the beginning right up unti the end when I couldn't put it down, I just had to keep reading to see how it ends. What a great story.

I gave this 4 stars because, for most of it, I couldn't put it down. I thought the last few chapters were slow and too much chic-lit for me. The rest was pretty good, even if it was a little too simple sometimes. It is another story of the bewildering and frustrating mystery that is of a woman who stays with someone who beats her and makes her children lead terrible lives. This is against the backdrop of Alaska, which in itself makes a hard enough life for those wanting to "live off the land".
