The original cover of this book is unfortunate; the girl has an extra-long neck and appears to be wearing a pioneer-style dress (despite the book having a modern setting). Covers matter. interesting sci-fi reminiscent of Lord of the Flies. predictable in places, slow in others, but well written. it did suck me in and i became invested enough in the characters to want to continue the series.
