Lately, I've come to the conclusion that there are too many writers whose friends and fan clubs don't have the cajones to tell them when their works have major problems. I very much enjoyed the novella that started this post-apocalyptic series, and I think I could have enjoyed the entire 5-book Omnibus much better if someone had bothered to tell the author some things:
1. It shouldn't take 2 days to go down 100 floors of stairs. You shouldn't need to load up canteens and stop halfway down for the ...more

First paragraph: Marck stumbled down the great stairway, his hand sliding against the cool railing, a rifle tucked under his arm, his boots slipping in blood. He could barely hear the screams all around him: the wails from the wounded as they were half-dragged down the steps, the horrified cries from the curious crowds on every landing who witnessed their passage, or the shouts of promised violence from the men chasing him and the rest of his mechanics from level to level.

this one was barely, slightly, less great than the others. This is not a critique of the series. It is still wonderful and I still recommend this highly as possible. Please buy the entire Omnibus, or get it from your local library.
just like the previous four books, this one leaves you wanting more. As soon as I finished the fifth book I went online to my local library and checked out the next collection. This time I did not download the individual books, but knew that I would like the entire thi ...more

Wow. A great conclusion to Wool. As others have noted, the five wool stories are all quite short and together make up one average length book. Each story gets progressively longer, but you're always left wanting more. Now, I don't think I can review Wool 5 without giving too much away from 1-4, so... (view spoiler)

This series totally took me by surprise with how engaging and surprising it was. It starts off slowly with the first 2 books, and you're not really sure where it leads, but that makes you want to keep reading. I hope the author creates more books in the series because I'm still left wanting to know what happens next.

The final installation of Wool did not disappoint. Like Wool 4, Wool 5 is more plot based than the first two, and while I miss some of the more poignant parts of the early installations, it's still a very compelling read.
I saw the twist coming, but it didn't really take away much from the reading experience. ...more

I'm going to say something shocking...
I've lost interest in the world of Wool. Yes, sacrilege, I know. I got partway through this book, and was distracted by something else. Now I don't really feel motivated to pick it back up . Even if I do (probably will, for the sake of closure), I don't think I'll be reading subsequent Silo books. I'm just kind of... over it.
HOWEVER, I will probably still read other books by Hugh Howey. I've got I, Zombie waiting on a bookshelf at home. ...more

A good dystopia. Better than most, especially in the first few books when Howey did not shy away from killing his main characters. Solid writing, but I don't know if he knew how to end this one. I know there's 3 more in a different set, so I suppose I'll put those on my list.
