I keep hoping someone will remove it.

wikipedia: "Romance: love emphasizing emotion over libido."

You must be kidding me. You know, I'm losing my faith in humanity.

I'm soo tired of that book and everyone saying it's a good one... For me it's a joke and pointless.

You must be kidding me. Yo..."
Whoever that says it's good it's because
a) Never read another book
b) Never read a good book
c) Doesn't even get the real message of the book, nor understand the message of each character.
It's so bad written, the lack of plot is so obvious and not to say the main characters are the worst ever.

I totally agree with that. I just don't get it!! There are so many better books and... Aghh!! this stresses me out. I can understand that they like the book, but I just think they overestimate it... a lot :/

Indeed! I mean, it's okay, you like the book. But even if so, they already know -or should- that it's clearly not the best book ever written...
But whatever... As long as there's still people with some "book taste", I'll get on with those that have not.

I agree. Actually I wish there was a way to remove books. If there was then ..."
THIS. OH, SO MUCH.
At least, a button to down vote or something. I just can't see that monstruosity of a book standing oh-so-proudly as the best romance ever. I. Just. Can't.

That's an very good point. (view spoiler) O__o

Hard Wired: A Crash Course in Small College Football, by Jebb Rebal

haha book sucks so does the movie tsk tsk tsk

I am floored that people consider The Hunger Games worthy of the title "romance". Screw that crap. Battle Royale has more romance than Hunger Games, even with a scene where (view spoiler) . Yeah, I consider a piece of literature with THAT in it more romantic that The Hunger Games...

I agree that this is a good list - it contains many different styles - thanks to everyone who contributed. It was sad to read so many negative comments about the list - there should be no RIGHT or WRONG way to view any book or any person. It would just seem fair for all individuals to be able to contribute their personal input through these lists without feeling judged or insulted. It is nice to see such variety in what everyone is reading :)

Hell yes! I cannot tell you how many times I have reread that book. It really takes you through the ups and downs of love. Also, the second book, Walking Diasaster, lets you really know what is going in Travis's head and you know what happens in the future. Although I prefer Beautiful Disaster more, I think the characters are amazing and it is a joy to see them mature as characters.

Yes, there are many more examples of "romance" novels out there which perhaps are more deserving of being in this list.
However, like any art form, literature isn't immune from the fashion of a particular moment. I don't think anyone with a high school or above education would argue that 50 shades or Twilight are in the same category as Jane Austen as pieces of literature. However, what both series have done has been to encourage people who otherwise don't read much (if at all) to pick up a book and read it for pleasure. Not because they were told to by a teacher, but purely for entertainment.
That said, I enjoyed the 50 shades trilogy on a purely fluffy level. It's certainly not a demanding read and once I overcame my frustration with the repetitive writing style, I found it different from what I'd usually read and did enjoy it
Twilight, is an altogether different animal. I found it predictable and repetitive. However, I kept reminding myself this is really teen fiction. I read it because someone I knew who had never read a book for pleasure in her life was enjoying it. I'll always encourage people to read!
Perhaps this list is an indication of the fashion of popular fiction from a retailing viewpoint.
It's not a true indication of of "romance" or "all time". In 5 years I doubt this list would be recognisable.
I think the phrasing of the title is perhaps misleading. A classic is a classic, but I enjoy something easy and light as well. I just wish that editors put more time into some of the more recent publications. I really hate having to scan the spelling and grammar just to make it through a story.
However, given I'm writing this on my smartphone, my comment probably needs editing- difficult when I can only see a part of the screen- so apologies!

fifty f***ing shades!!!.....seriously??!!
didn't bother to go any further..

It's not GR, It's the people that voted for it.

lol .. i get your point

yeah .. it make me angry just to see that

I had much more fun on this list: https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/2...

BDSM swear by SSC: Safe, sane and consensual. Their BDSM was not any of this. EL James does not know BDSM. This book is an insult to the culture and makes BDSM look like abuse. Why insult people who don't like it by thinking they don't like BDSM or are saying it's abusive? No one said that.

I sooooo agree!! And why Romeo and Juliet is not in the first 2?

I completely agree. I can't believe some people consider this "romance"."
I also agree. I could only stand 100 pages but there was NO romance. It was very sick IMO.
