I also agree

I don't understand this!! How The Bronze Horseman or The Fault in Our Stars are after the 40th place.. and Fifty Shades, The Host or Hush Hush are in the first places. I'm sorry but I completely disagree! Who voted this?

message 154: by Monet (new)

Monet I like lists like this that make it hard for someone to decide which one's best...for me I debated over which Austen book was the most romantic; some of the young adult are well-written too.

message 155: by Ladyhawk (new)

Ladyhawk Seriously! 50 Shades of Ick and Twilight! It is very sad that readers of today now have the attention span of an 8 year old and the depth of a kiddie pool. If you really like erotica try Jacqueline Carey's "Kushiel" series or Ann Rice's "Beauty".

Ha, Ha, totaly agree!"

"The list makes me worry about the public"

message 157: by Stu (new)

Stu Schreiber Calling Fifty Shades of Grey a good book is like calling Deep Throat a good movie. Of course, I'm sure Kim Kardashian's biography will top the NY Times Best Sellers List. Sad commentary on our society.

Me neither.
I hope the young men in my life don't take inspiration.

Nurasiah boin 50 SOG oh nooo wtf people!!!!! read this list make me sad...what's wrong with people romance right now /(T_T)\

John Cannon Lisa wrote: "I came to the list to look for recommendations, but the rankings of some of the titles force me to disregard this list completely."

Same. Is even the top 100 any type of worthy guide?

message 164: by Laura✧˚ · . (last edited Jan 07, 2016 01:46AM) (new)

Laura✧˚ · . Fifty shades of grey? This must be a joke. And a beautiful disaster in the 2? You all gotta be kidding me. Grey and Travis Maddox are the worst male characters in the entire world and both stories talked about abusive relationships

message 165: by Anne (new)

Anne Marie I usually support differing views on books, and I despise elitism....but this is sickening. Abuse is not romantic. But this is not a new thing. People have always been attracted to Heathcliff, though he was an unredeemable character and not meant to be a romantic hero.

BUT, Emily Bronte KNEW what she was doing. Wuthering heights is my absolute favourite book of all time, and the character of Isabella becomes a stand in for all those lovestruck little girls who see Heathcliff as a romantic hero. He abuses her and treats her abominably, and she soon grows to hate him. She dismantles the idea of the "bad boy" before it even exists.

message 166: by Newly (new)

Newly Wardell I'm surprised that Bet Me by Jennifer Cruise even made the list. I mean Love in time of Cholera is closer to the bottom and Doctor Zhivago isn't even in the top 100. they are both better stories than Bet Me. (which is so romantic) I think there needs to be a new list formed. I haven't read the 50 series or Twilight series. But I did read a page from each and it didn't pique my interest.

message 167: by Teyha (new)

Teyha Smile Is there any book here that wasn't Young Adult?? How old are the voters here really

message 168: by Marissa (last edited Sep 14, 2016 09:26PM) (new)

Marissa It's almost like people have different opinions! Wow! People who are all "Only illiterate idiots vote for twilight and 50 shades." can get over themselves. It's a book, you don't like it? Sure, good for you. Doesn't mean you should demean someone else's opinion.

Edit: Also, if you're offended by a character in a book being "abusive" maybe you should step a bit into the real world. It's just a goddamned book.

message 169: by MomToKippy (new)

MomToKippy Ya know... The owner of the list can delete any inappropriate books or a librarian can. If the creator of the list would define the list a little more specifically it could be refined.

message 170: by Sunshine✰✰✰ (new)

Sunshine✰✰✰ None of the Lord of the Rings books would be considered Romance.

message 171: by Chris (new)

Chris Gager And the funny thing is ... that the category of "romance" in fiction used to refer to a very different kind of thing entirely! Not boy-girl at all - look it up!

message 172: by John (last edited Mar 15, 2017 07:29PM) (new)

John Jones How is the world did Fifty Shades of Gray end up in the same category as Pride and Prejudice? That's like comparing the Mona Lisa to a hog pen!! With that sort of mentality, how could anyone even dare to trust a list like this?

message 173: by Chris (new)

Chris Gager Gotta be "flexible" I suppose.

Tanz the Fluorescent Adolescent What is wrong with this planet? People seriously voted a book with NO FUCKING ROMANCE as a better romance novel than the likes of Pride and Prejudice. I weep for humanity.

message 175: by Anu (new)

Anu The fact that Fifty Shades of Grey and Beautiful Disaster not top this list, but beat Pride and Prejudice, tells me everything I need to know about humanity.

message 182: by Greg (new)

Greg Vanity Fair famously said "Lolita" was the only true/believable romance of the 20th Century. I agree. And I'll add that "Wuthering Heights" is the only true/believable romance of the 19th century. After all, "True Love Is the Devil's Workshop" - the rock band X, early 1980s.

message 183: by Jacob (new)

Jacob Wilder Cannot wait for Jennifer McBay Barry's newest book Shriek! It's about a teenage girl who finds out that she is an Irish banshee of legend. Compound this with the fact that someone from one of the ancient Irish families is out to get her and that her bad boy crush is in mortal danger and you have a recipe for a thrilling romance that unfolds in 277 kindle pages. It is so intriguing because Jennifer has very close ties to Ireland and visits frequently and you can see that passion in her writing! Be sure to check it out! The book releases December 19th, 2018 Shriek. Find the book on Amazon here: (https://amzn.to/2QvJJGo).
