Agreed

Patrick Wiley Please support The Devouring (Last of the Magi #1). Its primary author G. S. Eli is an American Roma an ethnic group more commonly known by the misnomer (Gypsy). He's the first person from his highly traditional American Roma community to write a fantasy novel. The story features a Roma hero and is meant to inspire Roma youth and help combat prejudice.

J. P. What on earth is a list of the works of great SF doing without Sturgeon? Goodness! Or Ellison?

Guys, More Than Human just has to be here.

And Deathbird Stories.

How about Stanley Weinbaum? The Best Of Stanley G. Weinbaum is a necessary addition to include the writer who brought aliens that weren't just disguised humans to the genre.

Nearly. I'd put anything by Dan Brown first though. Just my opinion, but wow, the guy's a bad writer.

Roslyn March I finished reading Horn-Horn by ADT Mcclellan and I think it is amazing oh my god. I hope everybody checks it out because you won't be sorry!

Really? I read it, and liked it very much. An interesting concept. To import old-world gods into North America, and have them altered by this new culture.

Debbie How is this considered science fiction? It is definitely one of my favorite thrillers. The Da Vinci Code (Robert Langdon, #2)
by Dan Brown

message 310: by William (new)

William Romsek Not sure if this list is monitored/maintained but the following books have multiple entries:

Project Hail Mary (3)
Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? (3)
1984 (2)
Neuromancer (2)
Midnight Library (2)

I'm sure there are more duplicates.

Werner William, thanks for calling attention to this! In the past 15 minutes I've tried several times to use the "edit" function to "check for duplicates." Every time I click on that command, I get a screen that says, "Page unavailable." The Goodreads management is supposed to be looking into that issue. I'll keep trying periodically, and get back to you when ! succeed.

message 312: by Werner (new)

Werner The "check for duplicates' command is still inoperable. I messaged the Goodreads support staff about the issue this morning, but haven't received any reply yet.

message 313: by Werner (new)

Werner Back in September, I got a generic, "one size fits all" reply from the Goodreads staff, and apparently they've never done anything about the glitch. It's not fixed yet (I keep checking every so often). :-(

message 314: by William (new)

William Romsek Thanks for your diligence! It seems we've lost some tools and general oversight monitoring since the last "upgrade".

You're welcome! Sadly, the quality of the site's maintenance has been declining ever since Amazon bought it some years ago; and I don't think the current management has much interest in the lists feature.

message 316: by Werner (new)

Werner YAY! I tried again just now, and the "check for duplicates" function finally worked! 57 duplicates have now been removed.

message 317: by William (new)

William Romsek Wow, your persistence paid off! Thanks for sticking with it!

message 318: by Werner (new)

Werner You're welcome, William! Thank you for calling attention to the problem to start with.

message 319: by Steve (new)

Steve LaForest Too many multiple listings for Foundation and the Hyperion series. If we are to stick with 1 book per series, we should leave out The Hobbit.

message 320: by Steve (new)

Steve LaForest The Martian Chronicles and The Illustrated Man STILL STILL STILL are NOT NOT NOT novels.

And neither is the phone book!

message 321: by Werner (new)

Werner Steve, I just ran a "check for duplicates" edit on this list, and it deleted 49 duplicates. Hopefully, that will have caught the ones you mentioned!

The list description doesn't actually limit the inclusions to novels; it just says "books." It also doesn't (at least currently --it's apparently been edited at some point, originally having been limited to SF) have a one book per series stipulation.

message 322: by Steve (new)

Steve LaForest Werner,
Thanks for letting me know. I'm afraid the varying stipulations for the assorted lists overwhelmed me a bit. We appreciate your efforts - if we ever make it to the Draco Tavern, or the White Hart, or Callahan's Crosstime Saloon, or Ten-Forward - I will owe you a round.

Glad to help out, Steve. If we ever get to any of those places, I'll take you up on that. Make mine a root beer! :-)

It, like much of Heinlein, is a crypto-fascist narrative. So, you are not alone in your dislike of Card. Not sure why I read it except that it was there and not much else was available in English.
