Best Paranormal & Fantasy Romances

A list for the best romances in the paranormal and fantasy sub-genres. All paranormal & fantasy romances are welcome. They do not have to be first in a series.

Please read the rules below before voting.

1. The book must be primarily categorized as a romance or have a strong romantic sub-plot with an HEA or HFN ending.
2. The book must fall into either the paranormal or fantasy sub-genres of romance.
Paranormal - typically refers to stories where paranormal creatures (vampires, werewolves, shapeshifters, fey, witches/wizards, angels, demons, zombies, ghosts, etc.) or paranormal phenomena (psychic powers, time travel, magic, etc.) plays a significant role in the story.
Fantasy - typically refers to stories where magic, magical creatures, or supernatural phenomena play a significant role and may take place in an imaginary world.
If a book contains the following themes: futuristic societies, other worlds, outer space, dystopian, post-apocalyptic, aliens, etc. it should probably be placed on the Best Sci-Fi/Futuristic Romance list here: www.goodreads.com/list/show/861.Best_...

Any books that do not meet these two rules will be removed.

message 1: by Phyllis (new)

Phyllis i neever read any of these

message 2: by Steph (new)

Steph I've only read Twilight (out of these books) and I can't say that wins best paranormal romance. I could think of twenty others that are much better, but Twilight wins by default, I guess.

message 3: by Toni (new)

Toni berkshire I am not familiar with most of these books, but 'Remote Control', was terrific, witty, original and fun to read. Some very scary parts dealing with heights made me feel that I was in the same place as the characters in the book and I had to hold tight to chair.

message 4: by Brittany (new)

Brittany Stella Price is an author to watch. I wish her all the best with her novels. I love the ones I've read and look forward to those I haven't read yet.

message 5: by Candace (new)

Candace Salima You left off the best ones! I loved the Nora Roberts "Key" trilogy as well as her "Morrigan's Cross" series. Those are the ones I would have voted for. I don't think the rest even hold a candle!

message 6: by shanah (last edited Jan 26, 2009 10:47PM) (new)

shanah I was only knew and read the Twilihgt Saga series from these list. Stephanie give us kindly different of love story eventhough just fantasy....amazing!!!!.
I like it so much, this is what i looking for. Almost perfect.......especially the plot. BRAVO for your stepahine...!!!!!

message 7: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Its probably sad commentary that i have read at least half of these. and still own them.

message 8: by shanah (new)

shanah Sookie's Stackhouse of Charlaine Harris, already add on my list but not yet finish from all series.

She was created her own world on Sookie's series with a lot supernatural and myths stuff. Very very imaginative, I really like it and add new reference on my head ;D.

message 9: by Lucille (last edited Jun 15, 2009 04:56PM) (new)

Lucille I love and adore all of Kelley Armstrongs books. I've started reading Patricia Briggs. Twilight, of course, must be mentioned as a good, clean, romance. Vampire Academy was really good. I'm not sure if they're on the list, because there are a lot of books, but i also love Kim Harrison and Colleen Gleason for paranormal romance, and Michelle Bardsley for quick reads :)

message 10: by Pam (last edited Jun 23, 2009 12:21PM) (new)

Pam Most real paranormal fans would agree that J.R. Wards Black Dagger Brotherhood is the best series out! I would add Jeaniene Frost and Christine Feehan as close seconds.

message 11: by Pam (new)

Pam JR Ward is the author, the Black Dagger Brotherhood is the series and it's the best acc'd to most of my fellow pnr (paranormal romance) friends. I voted for the first book in that series as I usually like the first one the best and in this case it holds true: Dark Lover. I would add Jeanienne frost as best new pnr author and Christine Feehan as one of the most popular of all time.

message 12: by Pam (new)

Pam Oh and I would add that Twilight is the most popular in the YA (young adult) paranormal romance category.

Just my opinion, but I do know it's shared by many as I read these like a junkie and have lot's of friends that are very into the genre as well.

message 13: by Pam (new)

Pam My teenager forced me to read Twilight, I did enjoy it but I usually like my books a bit more rated R rather than pg. I am now planning to read New Moon before the movie comes out :)

Your very welcome!

message 14: by Pam (new)

Pam So far I've only read Twilight. New Moon is on my tbr (to be read) list. I have till Nov when the movie comes out to read it so I've been taking my time. I did like the book a little better than the movie because I thought I understood Edward, and liked him better in the book. He seemed a bit more aloof in the movie than he did in the book and his character seemed more vibrant in the book so it enriched the whole story.

I will try to find time to write a review, and then one for New Moon when I finally get to read it :)

message 15: by Kayla (last edited Aug 17, 2009 07:59PM) (new)

Kayla J.R. Ward is the author of the best series of books on this list. The Black Dagger Brotherhood is ridiculously AMAZING. Take it from me whom still has Twilight posters and magazines throughout my room

message 16: by John (new)

John Burns Wow, i didn't think it was possible. A list consisting entirely of 100 terrible books.
Is it just me or is every single book in this list a YA book?

message 17: by Pam (new)

Pam Nope, they are not all YA. In fact Elizabeth Amber is WAYYYY not YA. Wow, you read all these books and think they're terrible but you didn't notice that MOST of them aren't Young Adult? Amazing. Personally, I don't read much YA and I did read most of these books. I Highly recommend JR Ward, Christine Feehan, and Jeaniene Frost, just to name a few favorites. These are all PNR (paranormal romance), so if that isn't your cup of tea perhaps you should skip them.

message 18: by John (new)

John Burns Pam wrote: "Nope, they are not all YA. In fact Elizabeth Amber is WAYYYY not YA. Wow, you read all these books and think they're terrible but you didn't notice that MOST of them aren't Young Adult? Amazing. ..."

Is it just me or is every single book in this list either YA or erotica?

message 19: by Greyweather (new)

Greyweather The list has "romances" in the title. What did you expect?

message 20: by John (new)

John Burns I dunno, there are plenty of great classic novels tht are also romances. No paranormal romances i suppose though...

message 21: by Emma (new)

Emma Where oh where is The Princess Bride, S. Morgenstern's classic tale of true love and high adventure?? Takes the cake for best fantasy AND best romance I've read. And where is STARDUST????!! That book is the definition of "fantasy" and "romance".

How about Fool on the Hill?

Half of these books that are on the list I've never even heard of.

message 22: by BJ Rose (new)

BJ Rose Emma wrote: "Wait... What page is The Princess Bride on? I couldn't find it, if its on this list at all."

Well, Emma, now I can't find it either, but I know it was there - I just checked my list of books that I voted for, and it's on there! "Is a puzzlement" as Yul Brynner said in The King and I

message 29: by Leasha (new)

Leasha tell me, what is so great about the twilight saga? it is just bella getting into trouble and you know at the end of the book/movie everything is going to work out. I liked all the books but was really disappointed with the story line and the movies.

message 30: by Adam (new)

Adam Shiver and Graceling were a lot better than Twilight- Twilight was super boring.

message 31: by Heather (new)

Heather I agree that J.R. Ward is the best! And as for the person that said these are all YA or Erotica...Have you ever read "Wolf Tales"? Now THAT is erotica!!

message 32: by Sarah (new)

Sarah THE HOST by Stepahnie meyer is a must read its completely diffent than twilight (loved them books as well) The Host is just as powerful i loved the read, keeps you guessing whats next and reading all night! Cant wait for the sequel!

Me too!!

message 47: by Jess (last edited Aug 16, 2010 07:24AM) (new)

Jess The thing that is wrong with this list is that the Twilight Saga is #1. Either people have never read any good literature in their life or they're just plain stupid. Twilight is an atrocious book with bland characters built upon some wet dream the author had that turned Edward Cullen into a stalker and Bella Swan finds that Romantic?!? If someone was lurking outside MY windown i'd phone the police. (also the fact that they're not real vampires because vampires DO NOT sparkle. She's literally ruined a mythical creature that are undead things that feed on the blood of humans. Dracula would be turning in his grave)

tbh The House of Night by P.C + Kristen cast or The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare should be up at the top.

message 48: by ☽ Rhiannon ✭ (new)

message 50: by Ki (new)

Ki ❝The Book Scavenger❞ The Fever Series is how do i say......one word....AMAZING!!! I loved the series and wasn't surprised it was on this list! The author Karen Marie Moning is the best and I also had alot of new to-reads to add to my list...
