It appears I've only read one Olympics related book. I've added it. Book is about a young woman who trains for the 1980 Olympics. Kind of creepy.

She is backed by a guy with genetic theories he wishes to prove through her, by having her go and win massive amounts of medals. I think, I might be remembering wrong, but I think she was the offspring of a Nazi genetic program (ie, both biological parents being "the best" physical specimens).

They made a movie out of that book in the late 70s, with Susan Anton. The movie was called "Goldengirl," don't know if that was the book's title or not.

Neat. I didn't know it was made into a movie. Book is titled "Goldengirl" now, but I do not know if it always had that title.

Oh. I'd seen a cover of the book with a woman on it before that looked more like a movie tie-in type cover. I'd forgotten that. That must be the movie-tie-in version.

Right, I just now looked on Fantasticfiction.co.uk, then on IMDB.com. Yes, that is the movie cover tie-in version. Woman on the cover of book is same as on cover of movie poster.

Movie released in 1979. Book released in 1977. There is no mention on imdb.com that indicates that the movie is based on anything else. Then again, they changed things around on there and I do not, any longer, know how to see source material.

I do not beleive Peter Lear, aka Peter Lovesey ever wrote novelizations. I think it is the source material for the movie as opposed to a novelization of the movie.

Wow -- costarring Leslie Caron, James Coburn, and Curd Jürgens as the athlete's father. (And, yes, it seems the movie is based on the book, not vice versa.)

I'm delighted to find this list, and have added three books from here to my "to read" shelf. I loved the summer Olympics and am now looking forward to the Winter Olympics. I hope that you don't mind me adding my own book, which was inspired by, and published in time for, the London 2012 Olympics. It has been bought by 4 members of Team GB but is fairly unknown as yet. Are you looking forward to the Winter Olympics? And the World Championships in Moscow? I am excited about them.

I also added "The Games" by The Times, which I was lucky enough to be given for a birthday gift.
