If you want it on the list, you will have to add it yourself. To do so, go to the top of the list and click "Add books to this list". The left drop-down menu that will appear is for your shelves. Choose the appropriate shelf, for example "read", or "all". In the window to the right of that one, type the name of the book. When it shows up, click on it, then when the new screen shows up, click "add".

Karin Wuthering Heights is fiction, but not WW II. And as far as I can remember, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone isn't WW II, either.

As much as I love these books, Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience and Redemption and The Hiding Place: The Triumphant True Story of Corrie Ten Boom are both nonfiction.

I am just noticing ones I've read, not combing the list.

Thank you, Karin. You're right! This list is a hot mess. It may take some time for me to clean it up. It will speed things up if, when you mention a title that doesn't belong here, you can tell me either what # it is, or what page it's on. For now, I am starting with page 1, because there are glaringly obvious errors here. (Ann Frank? Eli Wiesel? Oh come ON.)

Donna Davis The system found and removed 7 duplicates.

Removed, nonfiction:

The Rising Sun: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/7...
Anne Frank, Diary of a Young Girl https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/4...
(To be continued...)

Good grief! I'm not even finished with page 1 yet. Repeat after me: a memoir is not fiction. A biography is not fiction. An autobiography is not fiction.
I'll be back to stamp out some more interlopers soon.

Chris Why is Band of Brothers on this list? It’s not fiction.

Karin Chris wrote: "Why is Band of Brothers on this list? It’s not fiction."

Thanks, I've removed it as well as the sequel which is also nonfiction.

message 12: by Chris (last edited Mar 02, 2025 01:04PM) (new)

Chris Additionally, With the Old Breed: At Peleliu and Okinawa is also not fiction.

It's certainly one of the best books about WWII that I've ever read, and it's one of the best books about modern warfare that I've ever read. However, it's not fiction, it's an autobiographical account of E.B. Sledge's experiences in the war (and of the psychological impact following the war).

In fact, With the Old Breed (along with Helmet For My Pillow (by Leckie)) (both of which are autobiographical) was one of the three books that Hanks and Spielberg based their Pacific series on.

There are a plethora of nonfiction books on this list! The books you mentioned weren't even on the first page for quite some time after I started. I removed dozens yesterday but ran out of time to keep looking. I even edited the description to say "fictional stories" because people don't seem to remember that the title includes historical fiction! Interestingly, removing them changed the order of some of the fiction titles which made this job more difficult.

message 14: by Karin (new)

Karin Please don't add nonfiction books here--this list is a mess!

message 15: by Chris (last edited Mar 02, 2025 01:25PM) (new)

Chris Karin wrote: "There are a plethora of nonfiction books on this list!"

I appreciate your efforts, thank you. Here's a few more I noted:

John Keegan's The Second World War is also not fiction.
Enemy at the Gates: The Battle for Stalingrad, also not fiction.
Armageddon: The Battle for Germany, 1944-1945, also not fiction.
Princes at War: The Bitter Battle Inside Britain’s Royal Family in the Darkest Days of WWII, also not fiction.
The Third Reich at War, also not fiction.
Decision in Normandy, also not fiction.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone certainly is fiction … but it’s not about WWII. (to be fair, there are occasional mentions in the series (though not the first book) that one of the supporting characters was active during the fictional version of WWII in the series, but it’s just a brief historical note, not the focus of the book).
Wuthering Heights: Also fiction, but it’s “Classic Fiction” set in the early 1800’s, not about WWII at all.

message 16: by Karin (last edited Mar 02, 2025 01:44PM) (new)

Karin I think I've already taken out Keegan's book. I'm just going in order and looking up titles that are probably not fiction to be sure they are nonfiction--I don't want to accidentally delete fiction because it belongs here plus I don't want to lose my librarian status. I will look for Enemy at the Gates in case I missed that one.

I've removed all on your list.
