A Goodreads user asked Kellyn Roth:

What inspired you to write your first book?

Kellyn Roth It depends on what you mean by my first book.

If you mean my first published book, then I can tell you that The Dressmaker's Secret was inspired by wanting to write a story about a little girl living during the Victorian era and expanding from there.

If you mean the first book I ever written ... well, Kicky the Dolphin, which I wrote when I was six or seven, was inspired by my science schoolwork. And because dolphins are awesome.

If you mean my first completed book that wasn't, y'know, about animals, then Untitled Novel 3 (what? That's a legitimate title ...) was inspired by my desire to write a book like A Girl of the Limberlost by Gene Stratton Porter. Because I just didn't want the story to end. :)
