Tammy
Tammy asked Taylor Jenkins Reid:

The “casting couch” that was commonly used in old school Hollywood was kind of expected. In your book Evelyn marries her first husband and uses him to get to Hollywood. Did you want Evelyn to be the one “using” Hollywood on her own terms versus being used?

Taylor Jenkins Reid I wanted to put forth a woman taking control of her own destiny. Evelyn can't control how the world works. All she can do is use it to her advantage. I like a woman who get what she wants out of life by using what she has available to her. Evelyn refuses to yield the upper hand, even when she barely has it. But she believes firmly that if someone is going to take something from you, you should get something in return for it.
