Mary asked Sadie Grubor:

I don't understand the ending of the Modern Arrangement series.[spoilers removed]

Sadie Grubor It comes down to that Loreley is and always has been her father's daughter - sneaky, crafty, and manipulative.

Remember one of the body guards he kept around wasn't killed in the end. In fact, Loreley fakes her death - planned it out so that she could escape her father's family (his brothers) who would seek her out after killing him.

I kind of left the 'how' up to the readers imagination. But for me this is how it happened:

She planned the confrontation, killed her father, but to avoid jail she fakes her death. While she does get shot, one of the body guards helps her to fake the death and escape out of the country and into hiding. While Loreley doesn't get a perfect HEA with her son, she does get a fresh start every after.
