Goodreads asked Byn Always:

How do you deal with writer’s block?

Byn Always I do freewrites. That's how I got out of years-long writer's block to finally begin writing again. That's what inspired several 35k word stories and gave me the belief that I could write a full-length novel.

I do freewrites through steemit.com/@mariannewest but basically, it is just choosing a SIMPLE writing prompt and just writing for five minutes.

Her three-part weekend prompts were always REALLY inspiring. You start with one sentence that she posts. Writ for five minutes, come back and get the next sentence, write for five minutes and then end with one last prompt. It literally started my first book AND my second. (And another couple started that might turn into full-length novels as well!)

When you're only writing for five minutes and you don't worry about perfection, you can stop the over-thinking game. That's what always held me up. I'd overthink it or doubt myself and freeze. Freewrites changed everything for me.
