"Rule-of-cool" is my second-favorite trope, right behind "beware the superman." I AM SO EXCITED I WILL MAKE MY FRIENDS BUY YOUR BOOK SO I GET THE SEQUEL! Last question - I'm trying to figure out the geography (and I blush to mention I failed geography in college. Twice.). Is Goldsport based on an actual place, or is it made up like Stephen King's Castle Rock?

Tabsie! So sorry--I am only seeing this now. I'm delighted that you are enjoying the book, and enjoying it vocally haha! Goldsport is VERY LOOSELY based on a real place, though I've tweaked the geography somewhat. A small town in coastal Maine called Cutler. Puffin Island is based on Machias Seal Island, which is off the coast of Cutler and ENTIRELY worth a visit if you like puffins or islands or lighthouses. Fun fact: in early drafts it was called Puffin Rock, until I realized there is a kid's show that bears that name :)

Just finished listening to "How We Became Wicked." That was a horrible, horrible way to end the story. I will give you good money to hurry up and write the sequel. I'm going to thank you for your hard work now, because this "ask the author" thing requires you end with a question mark. My question - do the Vexed chicks eyes glow because of rule-of-cool, or is there something, possibly supernatural, that causes it?
