Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Shannon K. Butcher The idea for Saving Daylight has been cooking in the back of my brain for years. I can’t pinpoint exactly the time when it all came together in some kind of ah-ha moment. Because I write on a fairly epic scale, plot ideas are more of a slow simmer over the course of years, rather than some kind of lightning strike. I’ve spent so much time with the characters in The Sentinel Wars that they’re like friends. I’m constantly thinking about them and what’s going on with them. This naturally leads to all kids of ideas. I try to keep only the best ones—the ones that suit both their character as well as serving the overarching story.
