Hello Erica, Thank you for writing a very thought-provoking book. It was a great novel and it made me really think about and be grateful for my sense of smell. I loved it! One question, what perfume for you would sum up this story? Cheers Elaine (from another island, Waiheke Island, New Zealand).

I'm so glad that Scent Keeper spoke to you, and I love your question! I was actually working with a perfumer to create a scent for the book, and went all the way to Vancouver, BC to meet with her -- and then I had a bike wreck the night before our meeting, and then she moved to Israel two weeks later and it all went sideways. BUT -- all that said, I had a couple different perfumes in mind. One for Emmeline and the island (smoky and a bit spicy -- think wood smoke and cardamom and perhaps a touch of bergamot), and then her mother's honey and amber scent. Perhaps someone will still do it...

I too, so enjoy your work. Thank you for giving me an opportunity to dream and escape (which seemingly is more necessary...sigh). I am hoping you'll share your work place set up. PC or MAC? Desktop or laptop? Are there any software writing programs you particularly like? I am setting up my office to take my amateur writing more seriously, but am very green as to what "tools" might be useful. Thank you, Erica...

Just finished The Scent Keeper. I worked with Roman Kaiser and through that part of the book, I kept thinking of him. Typically I don't read acknowledgments, but I'm so glad I did as it was a joy to find out that you modeled the character after him. You nailed it! (And the book was an absolute wonder. You're such a talented writer!) Which perfumers did you talk to for the book?
