Hello Ms. Hashimi! I finished "One Half From the East" and I am currently reading "The Pearl That Broke Its Shell". I enjoy the personalities of Obayda and Rahima. Where did you get the inspiration for both of their characteristics?

Nadia Hashimi As a pediatrician and a mom of four, I've had the privilege of spending lots of time with spirited, daring, funny children. In my visit to Afghanistan and through my involvement with organizations that support vulnerable Afghan children, I've seen the resilience and determination that makes it impossible to look away. Children are natural sources of inspiration. I hope the stories do them justice.

Nadia, Our church book group met this week to discuss The Pearl that Broke Its Shell. We all loved the characters, story line and learning about the culture. We too would like to know what happens to Rahima and hope for a sequel. One of our members was very worried about Badriya, Abdul Kahliq's first wife, and what might have happened to her when she returned home from Kabul without Rahima. Can you answer?
