Tracy, The new movie, The Ammonite is about Mary Anning, about whom you based your book 'Remarkable Creatures'. I'm curious to know whether you whether you were interested in seeing it, and if you have seen it, what did you think of how Francis Lee (who directed & wrote the screenplay) portrayed her based on the research you did?

Hi Kate,
Your question is a little painful, because the existence of Ammonite means that Remarkable Creatures is now much less likely to be made into a movie or tv series. Not impossible, but harder. Do people really want to see two movies about Mary Anning? I doubt it. Because of this, and because Ammonite focusses on a fictional story of Mary's later years rather than on the truly remarkable things she accomplished when she was younger (which is what Remarkable Creature's focus is), I think it best if I avoid seeing the movie.
All the best,
Tracy

Hi Tracy, may I ask about your connection to the Cevennes? After graduating from college I came on a trip to Europe and never left! At one point I participated in a youth work camp which by chance was in the Cevennes, and I was enchanted. To make a long story short, I have a house in the commune of Saint Germain de Calberte, which is about half way between Saint Jean du Gard and Florac. Best wishes, Heidi

I have read all of your books but for some reason it is Falling Angels that I keep going back to over and over again. To me it is the most complex and also the best of your works. What I found especially interesting is its portrayal of the suffrage movement. Most authors hold up the suffragettes as heroic icons. What led you to write a more negative story about women's suffrage?
