Hi! I love your books. I was wondering how you create different and diverse cultures. What aspects of a culture do you focus on (hair, accent, clothes, traditions, etc.)? Also your writing books were really helpful! Thank you for that!

Thank you! I do research. For example, when I wrote EVER, a vaguely Mesopotamian fantasy, I read about ancient Mesopotamia. There are books about daily life for just about every period in human history. While I'm researching, I look for what surprises me, and I focus on that--along with what I need for my plot.

Ella Enchanted brought my reluctant reading self out of the depths of literary darkness and into the light of stories and words. I was curious, when you begin developing your stories, is there a particular way you do it, or how it comes to you? What inspires you to tell the stories you tell? (Also..Forgive Me, I Meant to Do It is absolutely hilarious and thank you for sharing that treasure!)
