Charles asked Jason Pargin:

Have you ever thought about compiling the greatest hits of your essays/podcast appearances into an essay book?

Jason Pargin Yes, the big issue is that I don't have the right to any of my Cracked columns, the company who owns Cracked owns the copyright on all of that work (my contract there stated as such, it was work-for-hire) and there's no easy for me to get the rights back (I've inquired with all three owners of the site over the years and no one was sure about the legal implications of letting me have my columns back re: whether or not they would still be allowed to publish them).

So that means any such book would require all new essays, even if I took the basic premise from my Cracked pieces I'd need to totally rewrite them to avoid overlap, and it would basically require the same amount of time as writing a novel, so that means an upcoming novel would need to be delayed 1-2 years while I write the book of essays instead, and I don't know that fans in general would prefer that.

Still, I don't doubt I'll do it some day, when my schedule changes and I have more time.
