Nikki asked Rick Riordan:

Hello! I hope your day is going well. I wanted to ask where you get your research on the mythology you incorporate in your books. There's a lot of differing versions on some myths so do you try and find the original source?

Rick Riordan I read a lot of different primary texts, usually. https://www.theoi.com is a great resource for this. Since we're dealing with stories that started as oral tradition and were passed down through generations and multiple cultures, there is no "original source." They evolved constantly and continue to evolve. I just try to honor the structure and the basics of each myth, as best I can interpret it, and when there are conflicting versions (which there always are) I pick the one that seems the most plausible or meaningful to me!
