What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Jabari Asim Read. As much as possible. I talk to a lot of aspiring writers who describe wanting to write a story that already exists. Reading work that's already out there doesn't just provide valuable lessons regarding how to write well; it also helps you to make sure that your own story is uniquely compelling. Ideally you want your work to strike readers as something they haven't encountered before.
