The books in the "True Colors' series are numbered, but from the series and book descriptions it doesn' appear that they need to be read in order. Is this correct or are there characters, themes, etc. that run through the series so that they should be read in order? Thank you

No, they can be read in any order. The numbers are just the way they released. The only theme is that they are true historical American crimes. Enjoy!
