Sarah, Did you intentionally misspell the name of the city where your story takes place? You were raised in the PNW, so why Port Orchards? I’m interested in choosing Middletide for my BOTM pick, but I’m really worried that the extra S (and maybe other locality errors) will distract me too much to enjoy it. If it makes you feel any better, I had similar problems with the wildly successful Remarkably Bright Creatures!

Hi Jill! Great question, so the town in the story is Point Orchards, and is not based on Port Orchard (which has almost 10X the population of the fictional town) I chose the name Point Orchards as a combination of Point Roberts (much farther north) and Port Orchard since the fictional town lies geographically between them. Hope that makes sense!
