One of the things that immediately made me fall hard for SIMON was the importance of music to the characters (and I really loved the fact that Simon himself seemed to worship Elliott Smith much the same way I worship David Bowie.) So I was wondering: do you listen to music (and if yes what kind) when you write? Do you make playlists in relation to your books?
Becky Albertalli
I love this question! I actually can't listen to music while writing, since I am very easily distracted. However, I definitely associate certain songs with my books, and when I'm drafting, I listen to them all the time in the car and during down time. And an official SIMON playlist should be releasing soon on both Epic Reads and the Waterstones blog!

Reading the book, I had the feeling that Taylor was queer herself (not necessarily gay, just not straight), since she had such a powerful reaction to Simon being bullied. Did you do it on purpose? Was it your intention to raise a doubt or make the readers wonder about it?
