As a reader, what makes you want to pick up and read a book?

Rick Riordan At the beginning, a powerful premise that gets my mind spinning. If I read the summary and think, 'Wow, that sounds cool!' I will try to read it. Then once I'm into the book, the writing has to be interesting to keep me reading.
