Lauren asked Orest Stelmach:

I just finished The Boy from Reactor 4 and I was curious: I read in the acknowledgements that the idea for the story came from Jaromir Jagr and I cannot conceive the connection. Can you please elaborate? As a longtime Penguins fan, I'm stumped. Thanks!

Orest Stelmach Hi Lauren, I'm so sorry I didn't see your question earlier. I feel terrible. After the Pens drafted Jagr, he spoke of defecting from what was Czechoslovakia at the time, whose government was a puppet of the Soviet Union. He said he dreamed of a better life in a free world his entire childhood, and that he carried around a picture of Ronald Reagan, keeping it a different school book every year, as a reminder of the USA and the hope it brought him. And that is how I conceived of the Boy from Reactor 4. Happy New Year. orest
