Hi Ruta! I have a question: How long did it take you to write your books? I'm asking because I'm currently writing a short story and I'm considering turning it into a full-out YA novel, but I'm not sure whether I should or not because I'm pretty busy with school and such. Also, what was your favorite book to write? Thanks in advance! Hugs!

Hi Nicole!
I was so happy to hear that you're writing a short story. Congratulations!!
It takes me three to four years to research and write each book. I know that probably seems like a long time, but I enjoy the process so much and the time seems to go quickly.
It's so hard to choose just one of my books as a favorite, but I did love writing "Out of the Easy." That book was a true joy to create.
Thanks for asking!

Hello Ruta! I'm a YA librarian & a fan of your books- my teens really love them! I remember when Between Shades of Gray and Fifty Shades of Grey came out and were being confused with each other- it was funny! Anyways, I could really picture your books as movies; if you could cast the four narrators in Salt to the Sea who would you choose? (If this ever happened, I hope they bring you in for scripting!)

Hi! I am a huge fan of yours! I picked up Between Shades of Grey last year and read it in one sitting! You're incredibly talented! Thank you for keeping these histories alive in modern literature. I was wondering how you first happened upon Wilhelm Gustloff, and what served as your initial inspiration for your YA protagonists? On a slightly different note, who was your favorite character to write?! :) Thank you!

I was greatly enthralled by your book "Between Shades of Grey". It's a very rare occurrence ; but, i wished the pages would go on and on, i wished the story would me through Lina's life, through her survival and recovery-- that's how tethered to her i was.Thank you for such an inspiring book. Question--Is "Between Shades of Grey" based off of real experiences? And if so, might i ask whose?
