Ruta, I really enjoyed your book "Between shades of gray" I want to ask what the inspiration of the book was, besides it being based on that era? I would like to know any recommendations related to "Between shades of gray" Thanks you very much! I hope you reply!

Hi Caitleen, thanks for your questions! I'm interested in WWII because my father was affected and involved. My father fled from Lithuania as a young boy and some of his extended family was deported to Siberia. That inspired "Between Shades of Gray." My father himself was a displaced refugee for nine years and that partially inspired "Salt to the Sea," my most recent book and one that I would recommend as it actually shares a character with "Between Shades of Grey"

Hi Ruta, Very excited for your next book coming out have read both Between the Shades of Grey and Out of the Easy..loved both for their individual stories. I have a couple of questions. 1) Is there any travel time scheduled to come to Australia this year? If not, how do we make it happen? 2) When you are writing your main female characters, is making them strong willed an important characteristic? :) Nat

Hello Ruta! I'm a YA librarian & a fan of your books- my teens really love them! I remember when Between Shades of Gray and Fifty Shades of Grey came out and were being confused with each other- it was funny! Anyways, I could really picture your books as movies; if you could cast the four narrators in Salt to the Sea who would you choose? (If this ever happened, I hope they bring you in for scripting!)
