Hi Michael, Do you plan to write a series that spans into the future after Riyria Revelations? Would be really cool!! :)
Michael J. Sullivan
Hey forzainternl, there is definitely a lot of interest in that!! When I finished the Riyria Revelations I had no plans to "go forward" nor any plans to write more with Royce and Hadrian. I did want to go backward as there were certain things I wanted to fill in about.
* The first was how the First Empire was founded (which occurred 3,000 years before the Riyria books)- and that idea is what turned into the six-book series "The Legends of the First Empire."
* I also wanted to explore how that First Empire fell (2,000 years after "Legends" and 1,000 years before "Revelations." This is essentially the backstory for Esrahaddon, Jerish, and Nevrik. I think it would be one book, but it would probably spin into a series - don't know yet
Now, those were my plans but plans change. For instance:
* I wrote the Riyria Chronicle tales because people (including my wife) were depressed to see Royce and Hadrian go and they wanted more. I have no idea how many books that series will be as I'll stop before the team wear out their welcome - but I'm currently writing the 4th book of that series.
* People like you (and many more) have been asking for more post Revelations and several ideas have come to mind - especially as things have filled in with the "Legends" books. I did leave a thread open in Revelations (if you re-read watch out for Yolric). So I now have several ideas for post-Revelations but not enough is full-formed for me to say definitely that there will be a sequel. I'm still trying to decide how "far" in the future I should write -- so do I have plans? Not firm ones (as I do with the Fall of the Empire books). But some ideas are coming to me and I just may do that someday. I'm letting it percolate and we'll see if drinkable coffee is brewed.
Thanks for asking.

I read on an earlier post that you actually don't mind tropes. Maybe because I'm a little newer to fantasy I found that I'm not sick of them yet. Do you think other authors are trying way too hard to be different ? And dark ? I should worry about just writing a great story ? Now I really want to try your books . I still like an old fashioned fantasy story .

Ah, Michael, you're killing me with that ending to Legend (pun perhaps intended). Anxiously awaiting Age of Death. Incidentally, as I went to look for Death release dates, I happened upon the Kickstarter and missed it by hours! Sorry, I haven't kept my fingers on the pulse. I definitely would have jumped on a signed hardcover! Audio books release the same day as paper, right? Thanks for the amazing stories!
