Lara Liz asked Kate Isabel Foley:

What's your favourite poem in the Instructions for Flight anthology?

Kate Isabel Foley Ooh, great question! And this is actually a very easy one for me to answer, because my favorite poem in the anthology is the title poem. A lot of my poems come from imaginary situations, people, and stories. I might take inspiration from characters in a TV show or from asking myself "what if?". But Instructions For Flight was a deeply personal poem for me, and I think a lot of people can relate to it on some level. The final version you see in the anthology is nearly identical to the first draft, which NEVER happens with the first drafts of anything I write. I wrote it in less than an hour in a break between classes at my summer writer's camp last year, and by the time I'd finished it, I was crying. I knew if something I'd written could make me feel like that, then someone reading it would surely feel something, too. It's probably my favorite poem I've written to date, period. Thank you for asking!
