I have a question, folks.

I've been thinking about folders/discussions for the group and have some ideas I'd like to share and get your opinion on.

Obviously, I'm going to promo my own books here occasionally, especially when my next one releases next month.

But I also want this to be a fun group that people enjoy coming to AND get a benefit out of. I also highly believe in people helping people, and would like to see that happen here.

So...my ideas:

-A thread for books that need likes/tags on Amazon or for AMZ author pages
-A thread to share Facebook pages or Twitter accounts
-A thread to offer free copies of titles to possible reviewers
-A thread to hook up interviewers/interviewees for blogs and such

What do we all think? Any other ideas? What do you like/not like from this list? I'm open to any/all ideas and will start implementing them soon.

Thanks, ya'll!

Anne

Hmm, well I'd like a thread where everyone buys my books :)

LOL - wouldn't we all? :-) I wish the groups were a little more customizable so we could add additional sections for things like that. But I'm about to relaunch my book review site, which has been gathering dust over the past 18 months or so, and maybe I'll incorporate something like that there.

I like your ideas Anne. It is nice to meet you.

It's nice to meet you, too, David! :-)

Norma Budden (normabudden) I think the first three would be better options.

Lightbulb! What if you had a category named Smashwords Freebies for Reviewers? That way people would expect to review the book if they downloaded it from Smashwords.

The coupon could be posted in this group only - unless the author chose otherwise. Just a thought.

I think that's a great idea for Norma!

message 9: by Steven (new)

Steven Atwood (stevenatwood) Can you do that? That is a good idea.

message 10: by Norma (new)

Norma Budden (normabudden) I know I'm going to add it to my Kindle Mysteries and Thrillers group. No time like the present...

Sorry I didn't have a chance to get to implementing these ideas today - I promise I will ASAP. I got sidetracked into a couple other projects, plus squeeze-my-kiddos time, and just realized I hadn't been on Goodreads all day!

Welcome, David - so glad you're here!

Norma Budden (normabudden) Regardless of anything, Anne, this is a weekend and family comes first, especially now that you're home and don't need to focus on a job for numerous hours each week AND try to fit in the writing. I know it's hard sometimes to leave the computer behind but, since the kids returned to school, I haven't been spending as much time in front of the computer during weekends either.

Agreed. Quality family time comes first. :)

Our weekends are a bit different. My husband's off days are Sunday/Monday/Tuesday (he's a cop) so I actually work on Saturdays and then take off Sundays usually and only work a partial day on Mondays. But regardless, yes, my kidlets definitely come first. At 2 and 3, they're already starting to push me away a bit. Sadness!

We used to take Wednesday nights for family movie night. When we had a steady flow of income.

Catrina, you can still have movie night at home. A couple bags of popcorn, a couple blankets and pillows and a dim light in addition to the TV screen (with phones turned off so as not to distract) and you're all set to go - and you don't need to worry about the germs other people are spreading, especially during flu seasons and so on.

We used to rent movies on dollar day. But, netflix and Hulu have replaced rentals.

Norma Budden (normabudden) What about classic favorites you have at home - or see if there's any opportunities to do a movie swap for a week with others...

We do that and most evenings before the sun sets an hour of walking as a family.

That sounds awesome...if it wasn't a thousand degrees here in Texas, I would have loved to have started doing that with my kiddos this summer. Perhaps once it cools off...and once I buy secure leashes so the rugrats can't get away from me, since we have no sidewalks. :-)

message 32: by Catrina (new)

Catrina Barton (kittyb78) | 71 comments Ah yes, Texas heat can be stifling. I grew up all over Texas.
Leashes huh? XD I remember those days!

Anne Carpenter (annemcarpenter) | 109 comments Mod
Yes...they're too big to voluntarily stay in the stroller and SO big that they think they don't need to hold hands and want to run off. That doesn't work so well...we live on a dead end road that only residents drive up and down...but we're at the top of the road and the ones at the bottom tend to go a *bit* fast!

Catrina Barton (kittyb78) | 71 comments Know that feeling all too well. I'm surprised my youngest {almost 12} still wants to hold my hand to cross the parking lots every now and then.

The kids' preschool shares a parking lot with a few doctor practices and so during drop-off/pick-up, I, of course, insist that we hold hands. This is hard sometimes; I just had my second shoulder surgery (right side) in May (3rd is in October) and my left wrist/lower arm has been injured since May as well (surgical consult for that on Thursday, oh yippee) and is in a splint. So them pulling on me doesn't feel great. But if they were only pulling because they were eager to get inside? No biggie. No, they're trying to pull away. To dart in front of those nice big cars. Leashes. Yes, I need leashes.

I know the feeling. My youngest {when he was little} showed no fear of cars. He was a handful to keep out of the driveway. Thank God he's outgrown that!

At long last, I've set up all the threads we discussed here - yay! Find them and post away!

I'm going to shut down this particular thread to new posts since all of the other ideas are deployed now.

Thanks!
