Is it normal to have a small hatred for whites after reading this book?

Dexter Morgenstern I don't feel that way at all, and this is why:

There have been slaves of all races, including whites.
Violent acts have been committed by all races, such as torture and rape, and all things mentioned from that book. There were a lot of black and white slaves even before America was discovered, and they remained for a while after.
You may have heard of indentured servitude. There are accounts of indentured servants being treated just as badly or worse than what takes place in this fictional novel. Indentured servants may have the deal of being released after around 7 years or so, but a lot of them didn't make it.
And honestly, a lot of slave-owners wanted their slaves to last a lifetime, to get their money's worth. They only had white servants (many who were kidnapped children) for a number of years, so they made sure to get their money's worth there too. There were severe punishments, torture, rape, and more.
I should also point out that a lot of the black slaves in America were captured by other Africans. African tribes would imprison their defeated foes and commit many of the acts you've read and dread from this book.
Many of their prisoners were used as slaves and sold to the Middle Eastern slave-traders, who then passed them onto European slave-traders, and then onto America.

There is still a lot of savagery in Africa today even! With your parent's permission of course though after reading this book I'm sure they won't mind), look up African Warlords, and what they are doing today.

I'm not saying no black slaves were maltreated by their white American masters, but it's not as simple as "What white people did to black slaves." It happened to slaves/servants of all races, from masters of all races.

So I won't let a fictional novel affect my opinion on the evil a particular race has committed, when members of every race have done the same. Personally, I believe it's better to use a real historical account.

I recommend doing some research on indentured servitude abuse too, so you can see how it worked for them as well. Here's an article:http://norahcasey.hubpages.com/hub/In...

...and be sure to check out the references at the bottom too.

Now I don't mean to sound biased or disrespectful in any way. I am biracial, black and white, and don't mean to appear that I am taking a stand against any individual race.

Dexter Morgenstern Europeans, the English, ancient Greeks, Persians, etc all had slaves, and who was a slave and who owned the slaves depended on a few simple things. Who was in power? Who had money and who begged for money?

Most slaves were often kidnapped, prisoners of war, very poor, or a combination of them all.

That's a very good point you bring up as you are entitled to your opinion. I don't have much faith in public schools and I eventually ending up being homeschooled.

Schools have different curricula and some will move more into things like slavery and others will only cover the top of it. I personally believe that it's important to know about these things about the past, but we shouldn't wallow in it.
In the mid 1900's you have the Holocaust. It's important to know about it, but it's important to move forward as well.

On that note, I also think that it's great that you've found something to look into. Learning is a lot of responsibility on your part and even though the schools teach some of it, it's important to do research yourself as well.

Meena I really think having a small hatred of whites may show that your eyes have opened a bit, but may not depending on the person. I don't think you should hate whites at all, though, because those were whites in the past. Most people are not like that anymore. So you really shouldn't hate whites after this, but don't beat yourself up for it. Just realize that people of all races have been mistreated, and just as it's wrong to hate African Americans, it's wrong to hate white people.

To answer the question as of to if it's okay to hate white people after reading this book, no it's not. It is never okay to hate anybody.
