Anne Patkau | 93 comments For now I added "aka Reader's Digest Association" to "Reader's Digest" author. When I tried to duplicate cross-reference in Association, got message "Author already exists, delete R.D.A.?". Of course I did not want to delete R.D.A. Could someone combine or cross-reference properly?

Banjomike | 5166 comments Ah, Reader's Digest. I've tidied a dozen or so of the obvious duff spellings and fantasy versions of the name into these main ones (because they were there!).

Reader's Digest Association (1067 works)
Editors of Reader's Digest (405)
Reader's Digest (108)
Reader's Digest Children's Books (75)

Is there a master plan regarding which versions we keep?

EDIT:
Make that TWO dozen versions of the name.

also kept:
Lila Wallace-Readers Digest Fund (real and separate organisation)

Vicky (librovert) | 2462 comments I've been merging into "Reader's Digest Association" since that's the company name. "Reader's Digest" itself is the name of the magazine published by RDA.

I think the company name is more appropriate than the "editors of" names - I merge them into the appropriate company when I run across them.

"Reader's Digest Children's Books" is iffy - this is actually an imprint of RD's Trade Publishing, but I can see the merit in keeping it it's own entity.

Banjomike | 5166 comments So that would give us:
"Reader's Digest"
and "Editors of Reader's Digest"
both merged into "Reader's Digest Association".

Leaving "Reader's Digest Children's Books"
amd "Lila Wallace-Readers Digest Fund"
as separate authors.

Sounds good. I'd leave it a while for other comments 'cos it is a biggie edit.

Anne Patkau | 93 comments Biggies are more than little ol' me can handle.

In front of me says:
(Where RD = Reader's Digest, T = The, L = Ltd, years omitted)
"Reader's Digest" new line
"Great Detective Stories" on the cover.
Title Page "Selected by the Editors of RD"
Overleaf inside:
Pub TRDAL, London
© TRDAL
© RD (Aus) Pty L
© RD (NZ) L
© TRDA (Can) L
© TRDA SA (Pty) L
My abbreviations. Their brackets, not mine. Brackets around Pty not country, maybe they're getting confused too?
© TRDA Far East L

"Reader's Digest, The Digest and the Pegasus logo are registered trademarkes of TRDA, Inc."

NZ shortest. I prefer least words - brevity, simplicity, universality. Suffixes Ltd Pty Inc Corp depend on individual country incorporation laws.

GoodReads is international, and accurate. "Editors of RD" have selected, not written; editors are in author field with "editor" chosen beside name; RDL (in various incarnations) publish.

Glad final decisions not in my hands.
TA.
