Silver Mephistopheles takes Faust out for a night on the town so to speak. This scene is like a reflection from the scene in the city street, during the Easter celebration in which Faust is left to brooding, isolated from the life happening around him. But here now we have Faust no longer set apart, but wanting to be a percipient in the merriment. And we have some of Mephistopheles antics. We see him very much as that sort of trickster/fool character here.
