Diane | 13052 comments Just a note about Invisible Cities, which I have read recently. It is a spectacular book. However, if you are looking for a book with insight into the Mongolian culture, this is not it. In the book, Marco Polo and Kublai Khan are in Khan's palace talking about cities they have known. It is more of a fantasy book. I'm certainly not trying to dissuade anyone from selecting it, I just wanted everyone to know what it is and what it isn't.

Susan | 394 comments For Mongolia, I would like to read The Gray Earth, but I'm not sure if it is necessary to read The Blue Sky first to understand it.

message 13: by Genevieve (new)

Genevieve | 3 comments For Mongolia, I vote for Wolf Totem by Jiang Rong . I've been dying to read it.

message 14: by Genevieve (new)

Genevieve | 3 comments For Tennessee, I vote for The Long Walk by Stephen King . Stephen King is almost always a fun read.

I agree, it is an older book, but a powerful read
