Dawn (Kat N Hat) (katnhat) New for 2013 we are going to start a new read along. We will pick a series and read or re-read together with one book a month. Example: Book 1 will be read in January, Book 2 in February, Book 3 in March and so on.

Nominations should be for series that you would like to read next year and have a minimum of 10 books already published. Try to nominate books you think others would be interested in reading as well. Series that have spin off series can be included as part of the 10.

We will take nominations through November and will narrow down the series in December.

Feel free to promote and discuss a series you really want to start, no bad mouthing other suggestions though.

ETA: quick nominee links

The Immortals After Dark by Kresley Cole = 1 vote
Dark Hunters by Sherrilyn Kenyon = 6 votes
Psy-Changeling by Nalini Singh = 4 votes
Breeds by Lora Leigh = 2 votes
The Hollows by Kim Harrison = 2 votes
Women of the Otherworld by Kelley Armstrong = 2 votes
The Argeneau vampires by Lynsay Sands = 2 votes
Riley Jenson Guardian & Dark Angels by Keri Arthur
The Chosen and Darkness Chosen by Christina Dodd = 1 vote
Midnight Breed by Lara Adrian = 3 votes
GhostWalkers by Christine Feehan = 5 votes
Chief Inspector Armand Gamache series by Louise Penny = 1 vote
Rev. Clare Fergusson & Russ Van Alstyne Mysteries series by Julia Spencer-Fleming = 1 vote
Shifters Unbound Series by Jennifer Ashley
Elemental Assassin by Jennifer Estep
Dirk and Steele by Marjorie M. Liu

ETA:
To help make sure the series chosen is one people are willing to discuss, we are going to do the voting here in the thread. Each person gets 3 votes. List the 3 series you would most like to read and discuss with the group. If the votes are close we will put the top few up for the group vote.

Nominations are still open for new series until the 30th but since no new ones have been posted in two weeks I figure we can start the narrowing down process now.

I am going to give it a tentative deadline of December 10th so if there is a close few we have time for a vote and then people will have time to get the series to be able to read in January.

So start your voting posts now.

In case you still want to nominate it, Riley Jensen has a spin off with 3 books featuring Risa who was introduced in Tempting Evil (book 3) of Riley jensen. so it would still fit the parameters of the rules.

Melissa (ladybug) | 255 comments I'm voting for either

→ Dark Hunter series by Sherrilyn Kenyon;
→ GhostWalkers by Christine Feehan

message 36: by Dawn (Kat N Hat) (new)

Dawn (Kat N Hat) (katnhat) Ok, so it looks like Dark Hunter series by Sherrilyn Kenyon is the top vote. I myself am pretty excited about it. I've read the whole series but I feel it is time for a whole series re-read.

For those who really wish one of the others had won feel free to start a read along in the buddy read section.

For those who want to do this read along, we need to decide how to go about it there are more than 12 books in the series. Well actually the Dark Hunter, Dream hunter Were-hunter and Hellchasers all overlap and should be read as one series. By the end of 2013 there will be 24 books to read. We can either opt for 1 book a month and only read the first 12 in the series. Or we can read 2 a month to get the whole series done in the year. There are also 10 half step stories along the way, that don't have to be read to make the story work, but are still good.

So tell me your thoughts 12 books in a year or 24?

Yay, I love this series!

I like the 2 per month idea.

message 38: by Rosina (new)

Rosina | 1 comments Yay. My fave series. I vote for 2 a month. I ve read the first 7 but would willing re read them. Such fun stories.

message 39: by Jennifer H (new)

Jennifer H I've read the first 4 but as Zina said I would be willing to reread them. I'm good with either 1 or 2 :)

message 40: by Alley (new)

Alley (alleycatfish) Yay I was hoping this one would win. I know I've read up to Acheron, but that was ages ago. I don't normally reread, but it's been so long. And I remember really enjoying this series.

I'm fine with 2 per month. It helps to plan my reading lists ahead - not that I really stick to the plan anyway.

Ezi Chinny (ezinwanyi) | 1882 comments 2 a month works!,,,

message 44: by Dawn (Kat N Hat) (new)

Dawn (Kat N Hat) (katnhat) Ok, I will get threads set up a little later.

For now we will plan to read book 1 Fantasy Lover (Dark-Hunter, #1) by Sherrilyn Kenyon Jan 1 to 15. Then book 2 Night Pleasures (Dark-Hunter, #2) by Sherrilyn Kenyon Jan 16 to 31.

Book 1.5 Dragonswan (Dark-Hunter, #1.5) by Sherrilyn Kenyon is part of Tapestry (Dark-Hunter, #1.5; Highlander, #8; De Piaget, #10) by Lynn Kurland and In Other Worlds (Were-Hunter, #1; Dark-Hunter, #1.5; The League, #3.5) by Sherrilyn Kenyon .

So get your books ready to start reading.

message 45: by Ezi (new)

Ezi Chinny (ezinwanyi) | 1882 comments I think I will just read Fantasy Lover and Night Pleasures because I don't want to go hunting for those novellas

message 46: by Dawn (Kat N Hat) (new)

Dawn (Kat N Hat) (katnhat) I've read most of the novellas. They are not pertinent to the series plot. But I am still going to do threads for them just in case there are those who are sticklers about series.

message 47: by Ezi (new)

Ezi Chinny (ezinwanyi) | 1882 comments I like how Ilona Andrews and Nalini Singh just sell their novella for like $1.99 or whatever. I thought alpha and omega prequel was essential to understanding Anna and Charles' relationship. But if these don't add any value I will forget they even exist

message 48: by Dawn (Kat N Hat) (new)

Dawn (Kat N Hat) (katnhat) Some add little insights, but not all. Some are jsut mini-stories of a couple hooking up. Some of hers are available on her website to read for free. And she is coming out with a book that looks like it is not much else except the novellas.

I totaly agree on the Alpha and Omega prequel, that was very frustrating starting book 1 to have it start mid story. At least that is what it felt like to me.

message 49: by Ezi (new)

Ezi Chinny (ezinwanyi) | 1882 comments People who know I'm anal about reading stories in order strongly advised me to get the Alpha & Omega A Companion Novella to Cry Wolf (Alpha & Omega, #0.5) by Patricia Briggs

I'm so glad that I did.

message 50: by Dawn (Kat N Hat) (new)

Dawn (Kat N Hat) (katnhat) I am anal about the novels in order, but I don't usually do the in betweens in order. They are harder to track down. I thought that one would be the same. Nope, not at all.
