I know! Grrrrrrr.....I'm so tired of this already! And Romeo is lonely for some reading time!

Plan ahead - load a bunch of audio books and buy yourself some really nice headphones.

That pic makes me want to go watch the movie now, which starts off a chain of watching "movies i love that i haven't seen in forever"

Lara | 1426 comments I'm in. Of course DH will likely intrude a few times. Sigh, why can't marriage just support my reading?

Lol. If you could find a way to bottle Toppler Marriage Support you would have..."

That would be the greatest badge of all.....top that with toppler invisible children formula and you could be the YLTO queen for life.

message 57: by Lara (new)

Lara | 1426 comments Yeah. How to protect that reading time? If only I could send DH away on a trip... ;-)

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments Almeta's computer is dead! Arrgh! She may not have a working computer by next weekend. Maybe she'll come stay with me and my hubby for the toppler, and he will wait on both of us! lol

Or maybe, I'll phone her every 2 hours to make sure she is up and reading!

That would be great fun to have your husband play cabana boy!

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments ***TOPPLER ANNOUNCEMENT***

For those thinking of Homemade Holidays and taking advantage of the extra 6 hours for a project, I want to add that magazines will qualify as your book. I'll edit the Toppler description to include this.

I know I have a few holiday related magazines that I keep around and look at each year, and I'm sure there are quite a few others that do too :)

message 62: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments I hope everyone is almost done planning and gophering. Saturday's almost here! I'm trying to decide if one of my books will be a cookbook or craft book, but I'd better decide soon so I can get any supplies I might need.

I also need to make little piles of possible books based on what badge they qualify for. Then I can sit back and nibble on snacks and read...oooh, what books/magazines do I have with yummy snacks and appetizers??? ☺

message 63: by Kat (new)

Kat (katzombie) | 2478 comments Oh my, I haven't even decided what to read *freaks out*

We have heavy snow forecast for Saturday, so I'm not going to have anything better to do except curl up and read, hurrah!

message 64: by Lara (new)

Lara | 1426 comments I've got some books lined up, but am torn between several under one badge or trying to get a lot of badges. Hmmm, choices, choices...

message 65: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59964 comments Time to do a little gophering. :)

message 66: by Kat (new)

Kat (katzombie) | 2478 comments Eeeep! Even more pressing, I need to finish the books I am currently reading so I have a fresh brain!

message 67: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59964 comments I just re-read the manifesto for the toppler and it doesn't state that the book(s) we choose must be started within the Toppler times. It says that we must read at least 200 pages.

I need clarification. May we read a book we had already started as long as we read at least 200 pages of it during the Toppler? I just started reading The Dovekeepers which is 500 pages long. May I complete that book during the Toppler and have it count?

The other question is - must we complete the book during the Toppler? I'm looking at the "read at least 200 pages" statement again.

message 68: by Sam (new)

Sam (ecowitch) | 2354 comments So far I've only managed to narrow down my list to 44 (but that is down from 169) so think I may still have some culling to go!

Must also try to clear as much of my weekend as possible...

Second paragraph, Janice :)

The December Toppler is a 24-hour one and will start on December 8th at 10 a.m. EST and reading will end at 10 a.m. EST on December 9th. Books must be started and finished in this time period to qualify for a badge. There are no points in this Toppler, only badges.

Sam (ecowitch) | 2354 comments How'd you know Judy ;-) hehe

Groan! May I claim dyslexia? Or something? How about distracted?

Thanks for pointing the way, Kat. :)

message 72: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments Janice - you may claim any excuse you want, but we know you're just trying to find ways to make the Toppler work to your advantage :D

Debra - I think Almeta needs to stay with you, and Jeff should wait on ya'll - do you have a bell to ring when you need something?

I hope everyone gets a chance to read for a little while at least!

Aaaack! I just realized I have to go make badges! *starts trolling photobucket madly*

Ava Catherine | 4258 comments As I was going through my bookshelves looking for possible books for this toppler, my little golpher piles started to grow...and grow...and grow. Now, the study is not very tidy, but a crazy maze of golpher stacks! I am glad that I am not expecting visitors this weekend because they would think I am insane with all these stacks of books!! LOL

Haven't even thought about magazines yet!!! lol

Crazy fun! : )

@Judy msg 68: I love your choices! Now, I am in a panic because I cannot narrow my choices down to a realistic list!!!!

message 74: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59964 comments I'm going to start with A Room With A View. It's short and sweet and..... A Room With A View by E.M. Forster YELLOW. Since it's set in Italy, I can count it for my rainbow.

I'll head to the library tomorrow and get James Herriot's Cat Stories. It's short and sweet and.... James Herriot's Cat Stories by James Herriot GREEN. Since it's non-fiction, I can count it for my rainbow. And hopefully, it will make me laugh.

I hope to finish at least one of them.

Yes, J'Mom, I'm trying to manipulate to suit my own purposes. I'll behave. Promise. (view spoiler)

message 75: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments Janice - did you read the part about "You have to own the book"? No library books. Just want to be sure you don't mess up and your books not count! I'm afraid you may be dyslexic and distracted again :) (view spoiler)

You are too funny, but your manipulation attempts may cost you. I am thinking of appropriate penalties :)

message 76: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments To make sure everyone is clear on this:

You have to OWN the book/ebook/audiobook. NO library books, or temporary downloads.

message 77: by Sam (new)

Sam (ecowitch) | 2354 comments I'm sure you'll all be pleased to know I've now managed to shorten my list to...wait for it...41!!! ;-)

Knocked out those that were less than 200 pages. I do have one that is 1,302 and I'm wondering whether I should knock that off the list too...hmmm decisions decisions.

ROFL! I'm sorry. I think I've lost a few brain cells along the way. I probably won't manage to read more than the one book anyway. I do own Room With a View, so I'm okay there.

message 79: by Debra (new)

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments It's looking more likely that Almeta will have a NEW computer up and running by this Saturday. That means we WILL be participating from her apartment. Yay!

Ava Catherine | 4258 comments Jeff may need a break Saturday, especially if Debra AND Almeta start giving commands requests. hehe ; )

message 81: by Ava Catherine (last edited Dec 06, 2012 11:34AM) (new)

Ava Catherine | 4258 comments I know I am going to read A Christmas Memory A Christmas Memory by Truman Capote Truman Capote because it is a lovely, sweet book that I love and read every year to get into the Christmas spirit.
I'll have to find something to add to it since it is a short book.

I may read A Raisin in the Sun A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry Lorraine Hansberry as old book. It has been on my tbr list for years, and I might as well break down and read it.
Not sure what else I will read in this category yet.

All Wrapped Up: might be
The Story of Lucy Gault The Story of Lucy Gault by William Trevor William Trevor
or
The Golden Compass The Golden Compass (His Dark Materials, #1) by Philip Pullman Philip Pullman

*Note: Subject to change!

LOL, I'm sure he will be grateful to have the break from waiting on me. He's getting pretty fatigued, too. He has a chronic disease that keeps him pretty tired.

message 83: by Ava Catherine (new)

Ava Catherine | 4258 comments So the toppler will be good for both of you: he can sleep while you and Almeta read and have girl time! ; )

I've just read that short story for the first time - just beautiful.

I might see if I can't get through Mr. Ives' Christmas in the time. In between partying & recovering, of course...

message 87: by Debra (new)

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments Point well taken. I'm not going to push myself to stay up all night. If I do, that's great, but I'm going to nap if I need it.

message 88: by Ava Catherine (last edited Dec 06, 2012 08:51PM) (new)

Ava Catherine | 4258 comments Good girl! We will make Almeta put you to bed if you try to act up too much! : ) Judy and I will be keeping a very close watch on you. ; )

message 89: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59964 comments LOL! Those eyes end up looking a little surprised. I wonder what Debra and Almeta are going to get up to. I think we could all be surprised!

message 92: by Jenny, honorary mod - inactive (new)

Jenny (notestothemoon) | 846 comments Aaaaah! This is what a toppler is :) I wish I could join in but I also have a Christmas dinner on Saturday and my other half is too much of a grump to let me sit there and read all day. Boo to him. Will definitely be checking in to see how you're all doing though!

message 93: by Shanna_redwind (new)

Shanna_redwind | 228 comments Just joined, and looking for something to read. These topplers look like fun.

I do have a box of books that's been sitting in the corner of my kitchen for weeks waiting to go to the library, which I forget every time I walk out the door. I'll have to make sure it goes. (Mostly it's my kids books, but I do have a few in there)

message 94: by Pragya (new)

Pragya (reviewingshelf) | 4039 comments Kat, I'm with you, running around to figure out what to read...and why is Saturday never a weekend for me? I am never able to participate fully, work is no fun. :(

message 95: by Pragya (new)

Pragya (reviewingshelf) | 4039 comments Ah, great to see some of you have your books figured out.

Good luck, Sam!

Glad to see so many of you participating.

message 96: by Pragya (new)

Pragya (reviewingshelf) | 4039 comments Thank you, Judy. :D

I hope to catch two hours during my commute and more during the night, keeping awake. Sunday the next day will help me catch up on lost sleep. Off to figure out my book.

message 98: by Pragya (new)

Pragya (reviewingshelf) | 4039 comments I'm probably looking at either The Hunger Games or Henry Franks: A Novel. Thank you, Kat for these amazing books. :D

message 99: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Helwig | 20 comments I've been a member of this group for awhile and haven't participated in any challenges yet, but I think I'm going to try this toppler. I have a goal of reading 50 books this year and I'm only at 36, so hopefully this will get me a little closer.

message 100: by Ava Catherine (new)

Ava Catherine | 4258 comments Great, Melissa! I know you will love it! We have SO much fun during a toppler!! ; ) And we do manage to get lots of reading finished...somehow...between checking in on each other and laughing like crazy at each other!!!
